One of the most horrible tragedies to ever occur in the Darlington community, happened Monday afternoon at 4 oclock when Howard Greggs accidentally discharged a load of shot into the head of James Spears, his brother-in-law, blowing the entire top of his head off and killing him instantly. Returning to his home in the summer of 1865 no one knew him but his beloved wife. When the Spanish-American War and also the great European War came on he was ready to serve in any way in the cause of the Stars and Stripes. Our prayer is that the wife, children and grandchildren may follow obediently the Chief Shepherd who has taken the son to Himself.
